This is an incredibly difficult list to tackle. The amount of resources and legwork necessary to have any credibility is mind boggling.
There are a couple of places that I have major issues with this list. The first is The Leland Stanford Junior University Marching Band. This band is an embarrassment to a fine university. There was a time when they played hip charts with big sound, before their novelty act wore thin.50 years later, they are still playing the same worn out tunes and doing it poorly.Their thinning ranks are a sign of a lack of any creativity and their waning charm.
This group should have been put to rest in 1982 when they cost their team The Cal Game. The ultimate failure of a support group!
The other issue I have is with some of these schools that play on glorified high school fields, you can`t realistically consider them in the same league with the big time programs. Two bands that I find it hard to exclude are Michigan State and Texas Tech.

No true listing of great bands would include Stanford, and Cal, and exclude Texas Tech.

No true listing of great bands would include Notre Dame (a mediocre group at best), or Stanford, less than mediocre and an embarassment to bands everywhere.

I really enjoyed the West Virginia clip! Their formations appealed to my nerdy side. Really, though, the clips don't tell you how much the band does to support the team at the right times, quiet at the right times, etc. Are they putting together good clips, or are they truly helping their team?
